Kaniski received the award at a luncheon last week for her work on behalf of women and girls.

Nellie Kaniski is a longtime community volunteer who was honored by Soroptimist International of Santa Ana/Tustin.

Kaniski has been a president of MANA de Orange County, A National Latina Organization. She has also spearheaded its Adelante Girls Conference, a leadership program for students, and a lecture series to serve Spanish-speaking mothers, the club noted.

"Her work in the Santa Ana community is quite notable and she is an asset to the girls and women in her community," said Jennifer Fryhoff, club president. "Soroptimist International's mission is to improve the lives of women and girls locally and throughout the world and we wanted to celebrate Nellie's commitment to that effort."

The 22nd annual Adelante Girls Conference will take place at Santa Ana College on May 21. Registration for middle school girls is open. Contact president@manadeoc.org.

Kudos for stellar representation to: Gloria De LaTorre-Wycoff & Yvonne Duncan!

Dear Gloria De LaTorre-Wycoff and Yvonne Duncan:

On behalf of Women For: Orange County, we would like to thank you for helping to make the 26th Annual Great American Write-In such a great success. This year, we had more than 250 attendees and generated over 1800 letters and postcards to legislators and other decision-makers. We're sure you will agree it was a perfect example of Democracy in Action!

Again, we are very grateful for your participation and look forward to working with you at next year's Great American Write-In --
