Leader honored:
Nellie Kaniski, executive director of the women's
advocacy group MANA de OC, has been received a
Soroptimist Ruby Award from the Santa Ana/Tustin
Soroptimist International Club.

Kaniski
received the award at a luncheon last week
for her work on behalf of women and girls.
Nellie
Kaniski is a longtime community volunteer
who was honored by Soroptimist International
of Santa Ana/Tustin.
Kaniski has been a
president of MANA de Orange County, A National Latina
Organization. She has also spearheaded its Adelante
Girls Conference, a leadership program for students, and
a lecture series to serve Spanish-speaking mothers, the
club noted.
"Her work in the Santa
Ana community is quite notable and she is an asset to
the girls and women in her community," said Jennifer
Fryhoff, club president. "Soroptimist International's
mission is to improve the lives of women and girls
locally and throughout the world and we wanted to
celebrate Nellie's commitment to that effort."
The 22nd annual Adelante
Girls Conference will take place at Santa Ana College on
May 21. Registration for middle school girls is open.
